Story-Telling More Difficult for Brain-Injured Children: Study
Children with brain injuries tend to be able to acquire the same language abilities as other children but have greater difficulty developing story-telling skills, a new study shows. More Than 70,000 Kids Injured By Medical Devices Each Year
Injuries from contact lenses, intravenous tubes and other "medical devices" send more than 70,000 American children to emergency rooms each year, a new study shows. "The device injury rate among the kids were driven by only a handful of device categories," said lead author Dr. Cunlin Wang, a medical epidemiologist in the Office of Surveillance and Biometrics at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. "Seventy percent of the device injuries are coming from ophthalmic devices, general hospital and ob/gyn devices."

Certain epilepsy drugs may increase risk of suicide
ST. PAUL, Minn. – While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires a warning of an increased risk of suicide for all epilepsy drugs, a new study shows that only certain drugs may increase the risk. The study is published in the July 27, 2010, issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. Newer drugs with a higher risk of causing depression than other epilepsy drugs, such as levetiracetam, topiramate and vigabatrin, were found to increase the risk of self-harm or suicidal behavior among people with epilepsy. read more
